About

Learning how the pieces fit together.

I’m making a deliberate move into cloud engineering because I wanted a new challenge and a career built around problem-solving, infrastructure, and continuous learning.

What interests me most is the infrastructure people depend on every day — the systems behind the services that need to stay available, reliable, and understandable.

I’m currently preparing for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate exam and building practical experience through AWS labs, cloud projects, home networking, and hands-on troubleshooting.

My long-term goal is to grow into a Solutions Architect role and, eventually, help build cloud solutions as part of a business of my own.

Skills I’m actively building and using.

I’m early in my cloud career, so I keep this list focused on technologies I’ve studied, used in guided labs, or worked with directly in my own projects.

Projects

Hands-on work, not just coursework.

I prefer a few substantial projects that combine multiple technologies and force me to understand how systems interact.

Raspberry Pi DNS & Remote Access Server

Built with guidance a Raspberry Pi-based network services server using Raspberry Pi OS, AdGuard Home, Unbound, SSH, and Tailscale. The Pi runs headlessly with a reserved address, provides filtered DNS resolution through AdGuard and Unbound, and supports secure remote access through Tailscale.

When the rented router prevented changing the network-wide DNS server, Tailscale provided a practical alternate path for remote DNS access. The system has been running continuously for several months and remains an active learning environment.

This portfolio is also an AWS project. The site is designed to be delivered from a private Amazon S3 origin through CloudFront, with Route 53 for DNS, ACM for HTTPS, and Origin Access Control protecting the S3 bucket from direct public access.

The next iteration will add GitHub-based deployment automation so updates can move from source control to AWS with less manual work.

A Little More About Me

Technology started with building my own PC.

My interest in computers grew from selecting parts, assembling and configuring my own systems, and troubleshooting the problems that came with them.

Outside the cloud

I’ve been working with PCs recreationally since my time at Best Buy after high school. I enjoy building computers, home networking, electronics, gaming, reading and audiobooks, and movies and TV.

How I like to learn

I learn best by seeing how a complete system works, then going back through each layer until I understand what it is doing and why. That is the approach I’m taking with AWS and my homelab: build, troubleshoot, revisit, and improve.
